Greece 2025: part 12

Kuka Apartment

Last night we took the metro to Syntagma Square and walked down Ermou Street. We’ve wandered every street downtown at this point, or at least it feels like it. I had a smoothie and went to a cool back garden bar for a drink and snack We then wandered some more and walked through the Gazi area with upscale bars and nightclubs. We then walked to the Irish bar to see how the Scots were feeling about the football game (badly!). Finally, we would up at an outdoor bar near Monasteraki next to a nightclub that a famous Greek singer has a residency in. Her name is Peggy Zina; I listened to her a bit later on after catching an uber home.

Today, the National Archeology Museum was free! We spent a few hours looking at sculptures, statues, funerary stuff, mosaics, frescoes, gold, and more from Greek and even Egyptian societies from about 2000 BC through 200 AD. The mask of Agamemnon and gold jewelry and decorations from Mycenae were my favorite (from about 1300 BC). Because we were just there it was super easy to picture all of these artifacts in situ. Many of the big statues and vases were totally in tact and notable not only for how old they were but actually the artistry as well Some of the museum was unfortunately closed for refurbishment, but the collection was impressive never-the-less.

For lunch we had these awesome bread puffs and eggs in the nearby Koukaki area. On the way there we saw a large protest for Palestine, including members of the local communist party and some real live anarchists! Street vendors selling red carnations were everywhere. Now, we are relaxing more at the apartment!
